Psalm 118:24
Time is measured in different units: days, weeks, months and years. Of all the units of time measurement, days are very special and important. Some days are very remarkable, other days are not so good. We may not be able to remember what happened past, minutes, seconds or hours of our lives. However, some days just cannot leave our memories. This is because a day is very significant both to God and men. While God created the heavens and the earth, the unit time for measurement was the day (Genesis 1:31). No wonder the Bible tells us that we must number our days, as it is a pathway to wisdom (Psalm 90:12). Why is the day so special?
A Day Is A Gift
“Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery and today is a gift: that’s why it is called the present.”
Days are such special gifts that God gave to men. Days help us to trap memories and make history while we are still alive. The days we live in, especially the present, called “today” is a precious gift from God. You may not consider today as a gift but you must remember that not every human being has the privilege of seeing this day you are in right now.
Some people have planned out events for a certain event for a particular day, but they do not live to see that day. Other times, an emergency or unforeseen event could disrupt your schedule for a day. Time is in God’s hand, much more than we have planned, he knows what will truly happen. This is why the Bible enjoins us not to boast of tomorrow because we are mortal human beings (Proverbs 27:1). In the real sense of it, we don’t even know what will happen in the next minute, how much more, the coming days ahead.
Every new day is a privilege, an opportunity, and a gift from God; not everyone has that privilege. Every new day is a good time to thank God for the gift of life and live life to the fullest. You never know how many days you have to spend on earth. This is why you must make the most out of every day. If you procrastinate, you are only robbing yourself of precious time. You must spend every day loving people, impacting people and fulfilling destiny. Don’t live your days in a way that you will regret later.
God gives us humans at least 365 gifts every year, those are the 365 days that make up a year. So, quit thinking that God has not done anything for you. He has given unto you 365 days in a year to live, love and make a difference on earth. Therefore, go out there and make the most of God’s gift to you; today!
I Will Rejoice And Be Glad In It!
Many times, we allow the sight of our problems to cloud our vision such that we cannot appreciate the “little things” that God does for us. This is the parable of the day. Because we face life’s challenges, we do not appreciate a new day when we see one. Most people do not understand the power of a new day. We have trivialised sleeping and waking up to see a new day.
This is what Psalm 118:24 is bringing to our consciousness as human beings. We must learn to appreciate every new day just like little children. We do not have all the time in the world, we will stop having the privilege of seeing a new day after our time is over on earth.
Do not allow your problems to rob you of the joy and healing that comes with a new day. Do not spend your days depressed, broken or complaining. Sadness, depression, worry and anxiety are all robbers of your day. They will never allow you to maximise your day.
You must learn the art of rejoicing every day. When you rejoice, you can achieve much more than when you are sad. Don’t wait for all days to be good and joyful before you rejoice, make a conscious decision to rejoice no matter what comes your way. Don’t wait till you have all you need before you enjoy your life, enjoy it now!
You can enjoy the journey of your life as well as the destination. Many times, you have to set time apart to make yourself happy and enjoy your life. Amid your busy schedule, always make sure you do something to enjoy every day. Laugh, enjoy the beauty of nature and play with your kids. Just do whatever makes you happy! Do not allow the weight of your problems to kill your joy.
The truth about life is that we cannot live through life without one challenge or the other. We will always have at least one need in our lives. Human needs and wants are insatiable. If you wait till you have all you need before you are happy, your wait may never end. Since we will always have one thing that we need or desire, we must learn to be happy while we wait for God to provide those things for us.
Remember, we do not have all the time in the world, we are finite beings. Every human has a birthday and a death date. Keeping this in mind, you must live your best life now! Don’t wait for the perfect conditions to rejoice, because the perfect conditions may never come. Whatever you must do, do it now!
Have a child-like heart, one that rejoices at the seemingly little things. Not minding the risks that come with their activities, little children go all out to enjoy themselves every day. If only we could live like children, our lives will be more fulfilled.
In your life’s journey, you will go through a mix of joy, challenges, wins and temporary setbacks. No matter what you experience, you may say to yourself: “This is the day the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!”
