Romans 10:17
Faith is an inevitable resource needed in the Christian life. Without faith, we cannot walk with God successfully. The Bible clearly tells us that we cannot please God except through faith (Hebrews 11:6).
By faith, we move mountains. By faith, impossible things are achieved through us. Faith is the shield that we use to quench the arrows of the devil (Ephesians 6:16). Moreover, we cannot live as believers except through faith (Romans 1:17).
If faith is this important, we must know how to fuel our faith to help us live above the storms of life every day. Faith is the combustive element of our walk with God. It powers our walk with God just like fuel powers a machine.
Our walk with God can be likened to a car that utilizes gasoline to keep it working. As long as fuel is supplied to the car, it is sure to keep working and moving from place to place. The moment the fuel is exhausted, the car stops moving.
Just like the fuel in a car, our faith can be exhausted or suppressed by challenging situations. This is why we must be intentional about fuelling our faith to ensure that it is always active and alive.
Jesus likened faith to a mustard seed in the Bible (Matthew 17:20). One important characteristic of a seed is that it can die. If it is not fuelled or supplied with the right nutrients that are needed for its growth in the soil, this will inevitably lead to its death.
In the same vein, our faith must be supplied with a constant supply of spiritual nutrients and growth boosters so that it will not die. If we don’t feed our faith, it will die. We can either choose to feed our faith or our fears, anyone we feed out of them will surely live.
Visit The Gas Station
When a car is down on fuel, we visit the gas station to purchase more fuel to power the car. Similarly, there is a spiritual gas station that we can visit when our faith fails us. You may ask, “Where is this gas station?”
Romans 10:17 is a definite prescription of where our gas station is as believers. Faith comes by hearing God’s word. The word of God is that gas station that feeds your faith.
To keep your faith alive as a believer, you must be a devoted and consistent student of the Bible. This was the command God gave to Joshua when he lacked the faith and courage to lead the Israelites (Joshua 1:8). As Joshua interacted with God’s word, he became one of the most fearless and confident leaders Israel ever had in Bible history.
As you engage in an intentional study of God’s word, your doubts and fears will melt away. God’s word makes your faith come alive. Are you in doubt, fear, worry or confusion? God’s word will not only calm the storms of life but also empower you with faith and strength to confront life’s challenges. Feed your faith today by God’s word.
