Psalm 107:14
He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death And broke their chains in pieces. Psalms 107:14
The Crazy Man
Jesus and the disciples got off a boat in the region of Gadara. There they came in contact with a man who lived in a cemetery. The man had terrorized the people in the community so much. They tried to tie him down with chains but he was too strong. He broke the chains and the irons on his feet. This happened because the man was a slave to the legion of demons who had made him their host. He was so stricken that he would take little stones and cut himself.
At the sight of Jesus, the demoniac immediately recognized Him as the son of the Most High God. The demons were so afraid of Him that the man lay down and begged the son of God not to torment them. They dreaded the punishment of God that they chose the option of being sent into pigs. Jesus delivered the man and he became an evangelist in the town. Bondage and chains come in many forms- depression, broken relationships, sickness, ungodly habits, addictions or bad debt. Like the demon-possessed man, we may feel like slaves and shackled by these things. However, God’s word is not chained. The powerful truth of the gospel is not restrained by our sin and chains (2 Timothy 2:9).
Arise And Shine
God sent Jesus to proclaim freedom to all prisoners and to release captives from oppression (Luke 4:18). For those under the dominion of darkness, He will bring them out of darkness into His marvellous light. Remember when Paul and Silas were bound in prison for preaching the gospel of Jesus? In the midnight hour amidst their praise and worship, an earthquake shook the foundation of the prison. The doors to the cells flew open and the chains that held the prisoners fell off. Jesus came for this very purpose.
God wants to set you free from the chains that bind you. He desires for you to be free so that you can concentrate on carrying out His ultimate plan for your life (Jeremiah 29:11). Whatever you’re going through, God has already provided for it. God wants to loosen the ties that bind you to loneliness or make you feel disconnected from everyone and everything. He wants to take away your sense of isolation. He will bring you out. Jesus will release you from the clutches of death and replace your dread and loneliness with the oil of gladness.
The Chains Will Break Into Pieces
You might have gone through a lot or sought deliverance from sin yet found it impossible to break off the habit. God almighty in His perfect timing will come with His strength and break the chains into pieces. It is Jesus alone who can break the shackles in your life. Therefore, reject the lies of Satan and choose to believe what the word of God says. Receive Him as your saviour and the truth will set you free (John 8:32).

My Chains Are Gone
Chris Tomlin remade the awesome classic John Newton song Amazing Grace. In the Tomlin version, he says “My Chains are gone. I’ve been set Free!” How awesome is it to know that as Christians, we are no longer in slavery to sin. Our Chains are gone!
